It wasn’t right that my youth should have disappeared so quickly. I was far too young to be this nondescript middle-aged guy sitting in the shade.

I grabbed my digital camera and ran to the public toilets on the beach which had a huge mirror on the wall. I took a photo of myself and then promised myself that things were going to change. Despite my age, I wanted the body I had when I was 18!

Everyone said it couldn't be done. Well, I was going to prove everyone wrong!

There was just one small problem though...

Modern health and fitness "experts" have been lying to us!

Nothing I tried was working. And I do mean nothing!

I wasted a fortune on expensive gym memberships and high-priced personal trainers. I spent hours and hours doing cardio, even waking up 5 a.m., because I'd been told I needed to train first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach.

And I tried all the latest diets too. I'd go through the day starving, but with no results. I tried cutting out carbs and following those stupid and dangerous high-protein diets that the "nutritional experts" were advising. But again, no sign of any results. They're doing the wrong exercises.
Slow "fat-burning zone" cardio doesn't work, and neither does the common approach of "toning" using light weights and high repetitions. And all that fancy Swiss ball stuff may be good for "core stability," but it's pretty useless for shifting any fat from the body or getting a flatter tummy.
They're following the wrong programs.
Even doing the right exercises isn't enough. The real secret is how you choose the correct exercises at the right time, and how you combine these into a structured system.

Most modern gym programs aren't very well structured, and are repetitive and tedious. Even if you do have a superhuman threshold for boredom, your body won't respond properly. Routines like this leave you feeling tired and drained, and the stress on your hormonal system can actually cause you to destroy muscle and hold onto fat. (Think about how you tend to gain weight when you're stressed: same thing!)

I was unwilling to let these great exercises become extinct, so I began experimenting with them, trying to reconstruct them.

The video on the left shows my recreation of the Greek Long Jump, which turned out to be one of the most powerful exercises I've ever done.

Done gently, it's a great way of warming up the body. But I also discovered that when you hold a dumbbell in each hand, you get a full-body workout, and some challenging cardio too.

Exercises like this are just as good as any modern cross-trainer or other fitness machines, and require very little equipment. Through a process of trial and error, I managed to recreate the best ones, and brought them into my Apollo Program.

Another excellent example is the Greek Press (also known as the Clean-and-Press), shown to the left. This is one of the real classic exercises from the original Olympics, but how many people do you see doing it nowadays?
